Hi fellow VVer's ON the weekend we went for a drive to Kadina on SA's Yorke Peninsula. As a lover of fine classic American autos fron the 60/70's I thought I would have a bit of a wander through the the cavalcade of cars at the Kadina Oval. Of course being also a VV enthusiast, I was pleased to see that some had made the journey and here is a couple of pics taken on that day. Unfortunately, I was unable to talk to the owner as he was very busy - and so was the interest in the van Found this also This one was out in the carpark. From the rego sticker it is home made and looks set for some further restoration. This is what I found on the way. The location shall remain a secret until I find out if it is for sale. It may be lived in - not sure. The cat may be a pet or simply there on 'mouse duty' Hope you enjoy. Cheers Graem

Looks like I got spotted lol, as soon as I read "I spotted this in the carpark" I thought, I bet it's my rig. Here are some pics I took. The missus and I took the Friday off and were on the road just after 10am. We got back home on Sunday about 3pm. Weather could have been better but still had a great time. It was the first time I have ever been caravanning, and I loved it! Filling up in Pt wakefield, the whole time I was on Pt wakefield road we had a shocking head wind and the poor old Cortina had a hard time with it. I ended up sitting on 80k and it felt like I had both feet on the brake and the gas pedal, needless to say it used ALOT of petrol in that fairly short time. I had just pulled in when this rig pulled up beside me, I didn't get any names but they were a lovely old couple and loved to have a chat. I followed them on from Pt wakefield but I turned off towards Moonta but they kept going into Kadina. They ended up staying at the same caravan park as us only a few metres away. Just pulled the van into the camp spot and took some piccy's. We were so close to the beach which was good on the first night as there was a dtorm and it was nice lying in bed listning to the water crashing around. One of the landmarks in Moonta While I was at the park, a guy from the rig next to me came over and we satrted talking about old vans. Turns out he worked for Adventurer and built caravans in the 60's and 70's. He took me for a walk a few streets away to have a look at a Adventurer he had found. I didn't take any pics as it looked mid to late 70's and it was absolutely huge!!! On the way back he was saying about how there would be lots of vans tucked away in this area as Moonta is a very old town, no sooner had he said that I pointed to a carport and said "there's one" we ended up knocking on the door and the lady who came out was very friendly and said that her Dad had built the caravan a long time ago and they used it for extra sleeping etc. She even opened it up and showed us inside but I wasn't quick enough on my feet to get a snap of it and I didn't want to seem to invasive. While the outside has seen better days it would fix up great. The inside is in VERY neat and would only need A tidy up and a good clean. The outside is clad in Masonite, but has a few bits that have gone rotten and would need replacing, rims are 15" fx / fj holden with original caps. It could be for sale as it isn't getting used anymore and has spoken to her parents about selling it but they are quite attached to it. I left her my name and number just incase, so you never know. Before I left I took a shot of it in the Moonta bay carpark as I have one of it behind a zepher on it's maiden voyage in 1962 with a young lady infront of the car. Background looks a little different now!! This was a photo at the end of the cavalcade on the oval. There was over 500 cars and bikes with something there for everybody. I heard that this is the second biggest car run in Australia. I couldn't get it all in the photo but I am sure you get the idea. p.s anybody playing at home the 5th photo the road cruiser where there are two guys shaking hands, the guy on the left that has the dark glasses on is Larry from Roadmaster caravans or "Lazza" as he is known on the forums. Enjoy!

The Cortina would be in for a bit of a struggle without any wind wouldn't it? ? How do you find the mirrors on the bar? ?

Hi andrew82, Hope you didn't mind me putting your picture on here - of course you didn't, I know. Also had a peek inside thru the front side window as the curtains were pulled back - just so VV enthusiasts like myself can have a gander inside. Cheers Graem

Yellowuki, The Cortina was fine except for that spot where we had a real bad headwind. It's a 2ltr 4cyl with a 4 speed box behind it and is 100% standard. They also came out with a factory webber carby, which helps. On the way back I comfortably sat on 90km/h and could have sat on 110 but didn't want to push my luck. The tow mirrors are great! I got them from Larry, I havn't ever used them before so they were a little fiddly to set up, but should be fine now. Aussieambo, No I don't mind at all that you posted pictures of my rig here . A bit flattered to be honest! have we met before? were you at the Murray bridge meeting a while back wih the litttle army green tear drop? with the ef / el falcon tow car? By the way I know what your all thinking, the tyres need to be white walled on the van. The guy who does them was booked up because of the show so it couldn't get done in time. He came out this morning and did them. Man I love his work, couldn't recommend him highly enough!

I do find it F A S C I N A T I N G Leigh ;D It actually looks real smart on the road, especially the side view of the car & caravan. It 'fascinated' me when I first saw pics of it, coz I wondered why it had a big chunk of its ass chopped out But, on the road she looks ' fascinatingly sweet' Mark

Hi Aussieambo and Andrew82, Did either of you get a gander inside that interesting van with the backward facing vent/window/thingy? The one being towed by the '36 Chrysler. (Don't you love it when you can cover your ignorance about the make and model of the car by taking a sideways looks at the rego plate...oops, did I say that in public? ;D ;D ;D)Anyway I was intrigued with the backward facing thingy? Is it just a vent? The van certainly looks as if it has been beautifully restored. Don Ricardo

The back section was a made up bed, but most probably a table that has been folded down. Across the front was a sink/kitchen arrangement. To be honest, I did not look up at the vent, but given the small size of the van, I would imagine that that it was simply a stylish vent. Regards Graem
