I visitied my very sick brother in law at Nyah, I went for a walk and spotted the shape of a vintage van under a carport off in the distance, I found who owned the property and successfully negotiated the purchase of a Globetrotter Van, got it for $100 !!!!

Dave, I am hoping the seller doesn't open the van, he doesn't have the keys, who knows what's in it?

There is quite a bit of work there in the globey, The 49 is still being finished but has been for 2 years & will be home at the end of next month when I finish my shed. I can't wait until I get the Globey home.

#Went up to Nyah Monday, pulled the van out from the shed, towed van to brother in laws to check it out. Had a towbar couple to suit a 1 7/8 inch ball so I had to replace it for a 50mm coupling, I had to remove the jockey wheel as it was totally rusted up. Borrowed BIL angle grinder and two hours later all fixed. Wired up temporary lights.Contact Vic roads & got a 7 day permit. We had no problems at all towing the van home, after about 100k's I stopped and checked the temperature of the wheel bearings, cold. We stopped twice on the way home to check everything & each time all OK. The caravan towed fantastic at 100 kph !!!!! The name of the van is Twiggy after Twiggy Sanders a Harlem GLOBE TROTTER. Ladies and Gentlemen, I introduce Twiggy :- This is the good side:- The dark side:- The inside:- Grouse fire extinguisher:- The brown is dust:- The stove:- Mirrors above the sink:- Temporary resident:- ID Badge:- LET THE WORK BEGIN !!!!!!!

Leigh, I would love to be at Blairgowrie but unfortunately cannot get there. Firstly, I would like to clean the inside of the van, would a wash out with a pressure washer do any damage? ?

Hi whippy,
Great find, & good to see another one saved.
It probably looks a bigger job than it is. But the Globetrotter sure is a nice van. I think you will be surprised how simple ply vans are to work on.
About using a pressure cleaner. My first thought is that if a section was capable of being damaged you should probably be repairing that section anyway. but I would be concerned about the ability to properly dry the areras if the water got in too far to dry out.
Having never done it I cant really advise. I know the ply vans are tougher than you realise. Most plys will withstand small exposure to moisture without problems, & there shouldnt be any MDF in yours to swell up.
I scrubbed some parts of mine out with sugar soap, & its a fair sized job. I also just sanded the bigger areas & took dirt, mould & paint in one hit. that was the easiest( & dirteiest) way to clean inside mine.
Get into it, & we will all be looking forward to your repairs/restoration. You probably will be pleasantly suprised when you find out how much most of us enjoy seeing lots of pix of restoration works. The positive comments make the tough bits of the job seem easier.

Hey Whippy,
On the pressure washer thing... If you're going to do it on Saturday this week, you'd probably get away with it, being 43 degrees, but overall I'd say don't.
It depends on your washer, but I've seen then damage timber, lifting fibres. You could also cause issues "injecting" chemicals into the timber fibres which have the potential to wreak havoc with paint finishes. Of course this comes from using the wrong spray jet, but I've seen people do bad things to paint on cars, so caution is the key...
It'll come up great though. Well done..
Cheers Chris

I have given in some thought to the pressure washer & have decided I will vacumn it to see if I can get it all the dust out first.
