Marvin has started getting ready for Coledale. His suspension has been sand blasted and repainted and new bearings installed. His tow hitch has been expertly rebuilt by Geoff. For those who are interested in old tow hitches, at the weighbridge it took me less than 15 minutes to disconnect, have him weighed, and reconnect with no assistance from anyone. He weighed in @ 380 kilos. ] He is covered if anything goes wrong (check out the insurance company's description) and Mission Control has judged him 'Fit to play' We still have some work to do on the inside Here are some more photos of him on the road.

G'day Alan & Jenny, And I'm looking forward to Marvin being at Coledale too, he looks great. Those bits of insurance paper do they indicate that you have insurance for $10000 with a premium of $39.33 And, have you found a way of getting the number plate you have without paying the yearly rental charge the the dirty rotten greedy thieving mongrels at the NSW RTA have the hide and audacity to charge us Cobber.

Hi Alan & Jenny
It's good to see Marvin back from the brink of dispair, living at the back of the Berry Pub. I cant wait to see him again at Coledale he is looking good. Great work to both of you. P.S I'm also insured with Dawes they do a good deal on old cars & caravans.
Cheers Spyder

Hi Cobber,
No and no.
The premium is for the increase in cover from $5,000 to $10,000 for part of the year. Marvin is insured on the HDs policy as an accessory, so the premium is lower than normal.
I weakened and decided to pay the dirty rotten greedy thieving mongrels at the NSW RTA for the plate.

Hi Alan. Great to see Marvin is once again street legal. The photo of the suspension shows the leaf springs and the closes end of the spring doesnt have an eye, was it broken or is it suppose to be like that. Cheers. Trodler.

Hi Trodler,
The springs are not supposed to have an eye at the rear end. On the left spring, you can see a pad which bolts to the chassis and the spring slides through this.

Hi to all in VV land. The last 4 months has shown some progress on Marvin's resto. He has been wired for 240v and 24v LED lighting. Polystyrene foam has been installed in the wall cavities to help control extremes of temperature. (We had an opportunity to test it out recently) Masonite linings have completed phase one. While I've been busy on the lining, Geoff has used his not inconsiderable skills to rebuild the original stability legs make up 4 posts for the fly and annex to complete the insulation and rebuild the original door lock (including making a key to match) Next week, we are off to Tregeagle (near Lismore) to have cabinets built by Jenny's brother-in-law. Don't know how far we'll get in a week, but I'm hoping that most of the hard work will get done. While we're up there, my lighting man is building the custom light fittings which we hope we can get installed in the week between our return from up north and the weekend at Coledale.

It has taken a while for me to get back to photobucket, but here's a photo of Marvin at Coledale While we were down there, we talked to a lot of you about the design of Marvin's annex. We decided to have it made in plain silver/grey canvas with a line of windows to match Marvin's front windows. The black strip along the window line is supposed to make it look like the side of an aircraft fuselage. The whole thing turned out to be a bit bigger than we intended and Marvin gets a little lost inside it, but it keeps him out of the sun, it has plenty of room inside, and it has a big covered area out the front which worked really well down at Kendall's Beach. The 24 volt LED lighting is now installed. Jenny & our son Mark designed and manufactured the art deco glass panels for the light fittings. At the flick of a switch, the panels can be changed to coloured mood lighting. We are still hoping to have the cabinets finished and Marvin polished for Mt Gambier.
