...can anyone identify the van please Rod Hi Rodnet, Sure can...just can't give you a name! ;D ;D ;D You'd have trouble finding it in the Down History Lane section, but it's there...under 'Unnamed fibreglass caravan (Guildford, NSW)'. See, obvious! ;D ;D ;D Here's the link. The van your friend saw seems to be different one to the one seen by Roehm. Apart from the different livery, they have different number plates. Of course, it's possible that the van has been re-registered, but excluding that possibility, it looks as if there are two of the "unnamed fibreglass vans from Guildford" out there. That can only be a good thing! That means that there are probably at least two of the four which were reputedly built still in existence. PS I note that the two vans appear to have different front and rear windows, with the windows on the van your friend saw appearing to be opening windows. A few other differences as well, such as the orientation of the tail lights, etc. Don Ricardo

Hi Rodnet What a great looking van - it almost looks like it's taken a mould off a transport truck of the period. Well spotted! Cheers Seehell

Hi humpty2 I think you are right, but I will check when I get back home from Melb., as I have a number of photos of the Bonny Hills van, and I have spoken to the owner. He has no idea of the make / model as their is no identification anywhere on the van. He has been restoring it over a number of years. Will be home tomorrow (Wed. pm) and if it is different I will make comment here. Cheers boblor

Hi all,
The van is an interesting design, isn't it. Like Seeshell said, it almost looks like it's been modelled on the back half of a 50's panel truck - a Dodge or an International maybe??
I would be interested to see the layout inside. Do you have pics Boblor?
By the by, I've just re-read Roehm's original post about this model caravan, and I realise he said that there were 5 of them built, not 4 - four of them built by the original designer/builder, and one by his friend (the one Roehm saw). So I guess this means that this one is possibly one of the original four?
It would also appear from what Roehm said, that the builder didn't get to the point of giving them a brand name. That fits with Boblor's comment that the van has no identification on it. Pity really - every V V deserves a name! ;D ;D ;D

Hi All We inspected this van last week on our way back up the coast in our Expandavan. Brian the owner has done a great job on the restoration and is very original on the inside. I do have the correct name for the van somewhere, as we inspected the other van at Burrum Heads some years ago, and the owner told us it was a Roadmaster or a similar name and only 5-8 units produced. Cheers boblor

Hi All Found my notes today on this van. It is called 'Roadcruiser' and only 5 were built in Sydney, this info came from the owners of a unit we saw at Barum Barum Heads some years ago, and we have seen the van at Barum a couple of times since. I hope this helps to clean up some history. Cheers boblor

Hi Boblor, Thanks for the information regarding the name of the van. I've updated the original post on the Burrum Heads van in the Down History Lane section, as well as added a post to that thread copying info from the two threads on the caravan seen by Rodnet's friend and you. I've re-titled the DHL thread "Roadcruiser" caravan [NSW] instead of 'Unknown fibreglass caravan'! Sounds better I think... However, if my understanding is correct the "Roadcruiser" name was only used by the owner of the fifth van (the one at Burrum Heads) for rego purposes, not for the original series of four caravans constructed by the original designer/builder. Have I got it right? Don Ricardo

...It must make it the rarest fibreglass van ??. Hi Boblor, Rarest? No there are two of them! I reckon the honour of 'rarest' goes to the Caribbean van based on the English Willerby Vogue. We only know where one of them is! ;D ;D ;D Don Ricardo
