Hello everyone, my name is Peter and I am new to the VV Scene. I have been reading the forum for a while now so I decided to join in properly. I have a Style-Line caravan (1962 I think) but I have not found any posts relating to this make, so if anyone knows about this van I would welcome the information.

Hi Oldbits.Welcome to the Forum. I`m pretty sure your van is other than what you believe it to be. "Styleline" stickers used to be put on a lot of vans that were sold out from a melb dealers yard.Click our Down History Lane section then alphabetically first header:Caravan & Topic Index. Oh, and pics would be a help. You might also check the stamped or welded number on the drawbar.Maybe some scribbles behind/under drawers or on back of cupboards for a start. cheers gordon

Gordon I read the information you provided, I will pull a few things out to see if there are any more clues to be had. I will also post photos when I can.

Thanks humpyboy, I'm looking forward to tidying it up and getting years of enjoyment out of it. I met a few members today at Lennox Head and I saw some very nice vans and cars too.

Heres a pic of the Styleline plate that is on the van, interestingly there was a van very similar to this at Lennox Head with Styleline badges but we didn't come across the owners for a chat. Cheers, Doug.

Hi Des and Kel Thanks for your comments, photos of the inside will be available soon. The stripe is actually a light brown or beige, it is painted over the original blue. Undecided on colour for the outside at the moment but I would like to refurbish the aluminium to a nice shiny surface. This will depend on how much elbow grease is required........... The van is getting new shackle pins at the moment, hope to have the job finished tomorrow. Once that is done it will pass the Blue Slip and then it is off to get registered. Really looking forward to kicking back and enjoying the V V lifestyle........will probably choose the colours over a few cold ones! Hope to see you and other interested people in the near future! Hi magicangelisa
I trust you had a good trip home to the Sunshine Coast, it was nice to meet you at Lennox.
Thanks for the information regarding the Style-Line caravan, I don't know if I have actually met Trevor and Julie, I'm terrible with faces/names in the first instance. I met quite a few people with Doug and Tracy so appologies to anyone if I fail to remember...............
I have found some interesting information about my caravan, and Style-Line caravans in general. When I went to get my van weighed (for rego) a man came running over to me to tell me that he built my caravan! He told me that he used to work for Burwood Caravans in Burwood NSW in the late 1950s and 1960s. Len said that my van is either a 1962 or 1963 model. He also said that Style-Line caravans are a stand alone brand, not a re-badged Franklin. The chassis' were also built in Burwood (around the corner from Burwood Caravans) and then they were delivered to the Burwood factory for the van to built. Len is a gold mine of knowledge so if anyone wants to speak directly with him just PM me and I will give you his contact details, he said he will be happy to talk with anyone interested.
Anyway thanks for passing on Trevor and Julie's names, I will catch up with them to compare notes sometime!
My van is now registered, I just need to get a new towbar tongue made for the temporary tow vehicle as the van is "going up hill" all the time at the moment. It won't be a problem behind the other car, that is now my next project to get back on the road!

G'day Peter, I noticed that tea towel rail too.... and the spirit level Would have to be a one in a million chance that the bloke who was involved in the manufacture of these Style-Line caravans just happens to live in your town and spotted you going to the rego man..... he might be able to give you a hand with the restoration...... or some advice at least Cobber.

Hi Cobber
You are absolutely right regarding the builder of the van, who'd ever expect that to happen. Furthermore, I bought the van from the original owner (well his son actually as the original owner died some 29 years ago) so it is a one family owned van. He also lived just 5 minutes up the road from home. Just happened to be driving by and spotted it for sale. So all in all I think it is "meant to be".
By the sound of it I'd better pay particular attention to securing the towel rail and spirit level when I re-furbish the van........
Hope to meet you some time in the future.
Peter

Hi Peter, welcome to the forum, particularly like your user name oldbitsmadenew.
It's great that you were able to buy your van so close to home and then to meet the builder in a random chance meeting, some would say lucky but i have to agree with "meant to be". Sometimes things fall into place nicely and hopefully they continue that way for you.
Thanks for posting the pics, we fall into the more pics please category, so hope for progress pics as you go along.
By the way, how long is your van?
Cheers retro64

Hi Pete
No all the dirt and spider webs were inclusive in the price. I haven't rushed into making changes to the van with the exception of doing what was necessary to get it registered. I intend to give it a bit of a clean and spruce up shortly and then I want to start using it. When I am sitting down with some friends with a nice cold drink the conversation will almost certainly turn towards ideas for the van. I'll listen to all suggestions so let me know what you think!
Hi Retro64
Thank you for the welcome, I am really looking forward to meeting some more people from the forum in coming months.
The van is 10' 4" between the two bulkheads at the hipline and it is 1980mm wide. Sorry for the two different measurement types but that is what I can recall from when I measured it.
I bought a new fridge for the van today (at HomeArt for $99 thanks to another thread in this forum) which will fit in perfectly. I don't know if anyone has a use for old caravan fridges but it is available for free if anyone wants the old one. I intend to run 240v only with a generator, battery and inverter for non-powered site use. I'm also interested in solar so I'll look into that as well.
My user name came about while I was looking into starting my own business restoring stainless steel and aluminium car parts, like external trim pieces etc. The business never happened so now it will be utilised for refurbishing my van and my tow car!
Anyway thanks for the welcome and I hope to meet you in the future.
