 Ute nears completion
« Thread Started on Jan 22, 2011, 6:19pm »

Well thought it time to do another posting so here are some pics of my other project that has been holding up the progress on my Safetee Minor, I hope you all enjoy.

We all know about “THE UTE” 8-) so here it is when I first brought it home.

I thought that I had taken lots of photos but when I went searching I had trouble finding the ones that I “thought” I had tooken.

I laid her on the side to make life easier for me while working on the underneath.

Here are a couple of close up shots from when I repaired the lower section of the “A” pillar.

So after I had done my repairs I took to it with some paint.

That’s when I finished up with something that looks like this.

So then today I loaded her up.

And we went for a little drive to the Auto trimmer where she sits waiting to have her interior finished, if you look closely in the first pic of the last group you can see the seat sitting in the back of the Ute (tow Ute) that is which was recovered some time back along with the door trims so he needs only to do the hood lining, carpet and associated bits and pieces which he hopes to have done next week, then all that is left is to go over all the mechanicals and electricals and she is ready for some plates and the road, oh yeah nearly forgot, also in that first picture you can see the straps at the rear holding her down, these were placed around the tow bar, essential piece of equipment NO!! ;D ;D

Lets hope the booster that I fitted to the brakes does its job, the teardrop won't be a problem but if I ever do the Don I will be thinking electric brakes and if they don't work I'm in big trouble :P

Looking good Humpyboy 8-)...........just one thing with the booster, did you use a VH24? They are hard to get nowadays, but there is a guy who does reproduction diaphrams from the original moulds if you were after that authentic look!

The VH40 is actually larger than the VH44.....(9" against 7.5"), but people should always read any numbers that follow afterwards as they are for different applications.....ie: VH40 is for drum brakes whereas VH40L is for disc brakes, not drum brakes etc......

I don't know if you know this already...........however it may be handy info for those who don't already know! ;)

Cheers Adam

I've used VH44's in both my cars, I was under te belief that the VH40 was for Discs and the 44 for drums but as always I stand corrected, there is always someone out there that knows more than me.

That is an interesting link about the boosters, I too have stowed it away for further reference.

This ad for the earlier VH24 might be of interest given the caravan references. Looks like Geoff & Jude's outfit posed for the illustrator :)

Hi people, did you know that there is different types of boost pressure in these units , of vh44 . Like the morris did have a greater pressure unit than the holden ete , so there are different types of vh44 out there with different pressure units in these . I found this out from Bill Winstone , who servised these units . So not all vh44 are the same if you pick them up ,John.

Now there is something that I'd never heard before, may have to ask more questions.
Thanks for that info John.

Well went down to the Auto trimmer today, handed over wads of cash and then loaded her up, she is now all nicely tucked up in the shed again sitting next to her big sister, so there you go interior finished now just to tidy up one or two things, get the boards for the cargo area and she is done, huh what was that? oh yeah the pictures ::) how silly of me.

Front seat (as if there would another in a Ute)

A door trim, Yep thats what a door trim looks like ;)

And of course my steeing wheel, you like?

Thats it for now folks.
Derk.

Very very nice! I would turn the horn rim 180 degrees, the ring at the bottom.

That question always comes up and as yet we have no real answer as to the correct position of these things so we leave to personal preference, as for me I like it that way as I drive with hands at 10 to 2 so I can reach it real easy to get them slow buggers out of the way ;D

I HAVE MY HORNERY (HORN RING) THE OTHER WAY AROUND AS WELL .
I KNOW THIS IS AN ON GOING DISCUSSION ALSO AND HAVE COME TO THE CONCLUSSION THAT DOWN IS THE WAY TO GO .

IF ITS UP THE SPEEDO CLUSTER/IDIOT LIGHTS ARE BLOCKED , IF ITS DOWN THE TWO SMALLER CURVES ARE EITHER SIDE OF THE SPEEDO .

ALSO IT MAKES THE STEERING WHEEL LOOK TOO TOP HEAVY !

8-)MAURIE 8-)

p.s ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE PEARL !

Well I took the old girl out again Saturday morning, this time she is at my mechanics to get one or two things done that I just do not seem to have the time to do, then down the road to get a couple of electrical problems sorted then back to mechanics for RWC then I'm off to you know where to get a couple of trinkets for her, wish me luck.
