You are welcome to tell us not only where it is, but also what it is. I know the answer to the first question, but not the second.

hi don ricardo

i might be able to answer your second question.

i think that it's a long drop toilet - they didn't have a shovel handy so they built a tower instead. ::) ::) ::) ::)

Hi all

I think it looks a bit like a water tower to refill trains (got that swinging hose at the bottom).

Have no idea where it is...

Cheers

Hi Golfview,

Glad you're on the case. I will be interested to see your answers! I was beginning to think that there wouldn't be anyone who could get it - or I would have to give some strong hints. Not even Olfarts, Humpty or Roehm have chimed in with a suggestion, and they seem to have been more places than most of us.

Your husband is obviously an observant chap. But of course you haven't given your answers yet... ::) ::) ::)

And Geoff n Jude - ;D ;D ;D

Its Near STANSBURY SA, and i've got the historical society and the yorke peninsular historical societys chasing it up to find out what it maybe. stay tuned.......

Ok so i should have just asked my Dad in stead of making phone calls to the historical societys. Dad was born on the yorke peninsular and my family has a long history there.
Dad said it was a lime burner, all along the bottom end of the yorke peninsular (inneston, pine point area) was big on lime and gypsum mining. they had big towers like above to burn the lime...
As usual Dad's a fountain of info.....

G'day Golfview,

Near Stansbury, SA is...CORRECT! 8-) 8-) 8-)

Well done and congratulations on your perseverance!

As to your father's explanation of what it is? Who am I to disagree with him? I've got no idea what it is, so I'm very happy to defer to his knowledge of the history of the Yorke Peninsula and its historical artefacts.

Over to you for another pic...

Hi Golfview,

It is a bit tricky, even to Google. That's not a bad thing, though! :) :) :)

You may need to give us another clue to get us going...

Perhaps I can ask a couple of questions to which you can respond:

1. Given where you live, I am going to guess that it is somewhere in South Australia. Am I warm?

2. You say that its use was seasonal. I am therefore guessing that it was used to transport grain from a silo somewhere to a port, and hence the bridge was used only during harvest. Am I warm?

Hi Golfview,

You are very kind, but I am not sure where to go next!

I thought I'd look at a map of South Australian railway lines...

Hmmm, that gives me a few options! :( :( :( I presume the photo is of a place somewhere on the map, but which place? I wonder how how many iron bridges there are on all those lines?

Based on the hills in the photo, I'm going to guess that the bridge is in the agricultural district north of Adelaide. Warm or cold? (I think this called a process of elimination. ;) ;) ;))

G'day Cobber, i googled cj dennis and looking at his wikipedia page, its not that far north. there is a a possibility that he may have passed through this town, but cant find anything to confirm either way on my quick search. ???

Harriet, your getting very close. Although the rail bridge at Balaklava is quite lovely ( and is photographed extensively - almost a prerequisite as a photography student at high school back in the say) it is not that bridge, but your on the right track
Happy searching. your all getting warmer ;) :D :-X

Hi Golfview,

Is that a clue I wonder?

I've been poring over maps looking for railway bridges but can't find one that seems to have the right profile, so I'm going to make a guess on what little I know of the terrain. How about the railway bridge near Gladstone?

It's on the same rail line as Balaklava, but I'm not sure how literally you mean "the right track".

Warmer or colder?

Hey Sheppo,

Is that the Hamley Bridge railway bridge in the Clare Valley you're talking about :D :D

I reckoned Don R deserved the honor of picking this one... he worked so hard to narrow it down and then you go and pip him at the post....boooooo ;)
