No, no, Dave, you got it fair and square I should have looked on the map first. You put a pic up I have a lot of older pics on a disk still in Qld, so I'm a bit limited on supply here at the moment anyway.

I figured that someone would get it fairly quickly, but it's a pretty distinctive landmark isn't it? The other interesting fact about it is that it is adjacent to a newly opened "one stop shop" facility which combines a quarantine station, a weighbridge and a truck stop. An officer at the quarantine station inspected the cabin and boot of our car and the caravan to make sure that we weren't carrying any contraband - in this case fruit and vegetables. One wit put up a comment on a blog: "No cavity searches, so its all go for smuggling bananas. Oranges too, if you are keen."
I think it's years since there was a similar personal inspection of vehicles in Victoria and NSW? These days there's a drop box and an honour system instead. The South Aussies obviously take the protection of their agricultural districts seriously. Good on them!

A bit of an aside regarding the fruit fly zone DR. On a trip I made from Qld to Port Pirie (yep to buy a VV - that's another story! - I'm not like MT ), I stayed overnight in Broken Hill and next morning bought some fruit there to take west. Thinking I was OK because the zone went from NSW across to SA, I bought up and didn't worry about hitting the inspection gate at the SA border. You guessed it, had to hand everything over, just because I crossed a state border yet was in the same exclusion zone. A bit rough I reckoned. I could even produce a docket to show I bought the stuff in the zone!!

Hi Dave and Golfview,
Oops! I had only looked at the photo on a small (mobile phone) screen and hadn't noticed that. Ahem, that's embarrassing... Oh well, some thing to double check next time!
And Dave, you are correct - as the photo shows. Funny thing is we couldn't buy a Berri orange juice in Berri, but we did have an orange juice produced in Sydney "from local and imported ingredients". I suspect it was only the water that was local.
Over to you Dave. Meanwhile I will see if I can come up with some pics of somewhere you haven't been - and remembered!

Hi Golfview,
Kuranda will hold some special memories for you then. We had a memorable holiday there with our kids in 1996. Did you go on the Skyrail as well as the railway? Both are pretty spectacular.
OK everyone, on to the next test. Where's this?
![[image] [image]](http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u271/1949don/bf9083a2.jpg)
Hopefully this will provide a bit of a challenge! You are welcome to tell us not only where it is, but also what it is. I know the answer to the first question, but not the second.

I reckon I saw something like this on the old Ghan line between Maree and Oodnadatta last year. If I remember correctly I think it was a desalination plant for the local artesian bore water, so that when the steam trains used the water their boilers did not rust out so quickly.

G'day Millsy,
You may have seen something like this item between Marree and Oodnadatta, but that's not where this one is. Right state but wrong location.
The object is in a part of the state which has no natural water supply, so maybe your suggestion that it is part of a desalination plant is correct, although I thought that its surrounds suggested more of a processing plant for some mineral deposit (but that is just a guess).
My initial impression was that somebody had gone to a lot of trouble to ensure that their shed didn't get broken into by putting it way out of reach!
More thoughts on location?
