G'day Frances and welcome to the site.

PM (besides Julia) = private message

Click on the person's forum name in blue in the left margin next to a post, a new window opens, select send private message, type in your message, hit send.

Only the recipient recieves the message.

Its done this way so personal details aren't put on the public forum, and so the thread doen't get cluttered.

Hope this helps.
