Hi all, is everyone from this end of the woods planning on leaving on Monday or is someone going later in the week? I had only asked for 1 week off work, but am sure I could stretch it to the Thursday, and Friday before as well, and then Wednesday being a public holiday we were hoping to leave then. Is anybody else working on this timetable? Would love to be able to make the full two weeks, but with my work and John's shop, it just isn't possible. Thanks, Dianne

Hi Dianne,
It is still early days for me as yet with regard to how much time I can get off work.
I am hoping to leave on the weekend prior, but if I can't swing that much time off then the Wednesday may be the go.
I would think that some people wont have a definate idea of travel dates until closer to the time.
All the best Di

DUBBO CARAVAN PARK
I've booked at Mid State Motor Village, which is the park that Craig, the manager of Cowra Park we are staying at, reccommends.
68821155. We've booked for nights of Wed 25th & Thurs 26th, with option to stay a third night if we want. If you contact them, mention Vintage Caravan Group to get to be in a group. $26 powered site per night for 2 people

Hi Lisa,
Thats pretty well how I hoped it would read. I'm still waiting on the owner of Uralla to get back to me. She's been away. I'll ring again this arvo.
Any one can hook into this if they want, & at any stage. Just have to make your own bookings, at these parks if you want to , then cruise along & have fun. JBJ

Hi Rod
Thanks for your concern about which roads we'll all be choosing but I'm sure by the time the Nats comes around, everyone will have worked out the route which suits them best in getting to Cowra.
Obviously some people are retired so have more time, others have to work so have less time, and as Dennis says, some people will join up for his whole run, others will go along for part of the trip & others will make their own way there.
It's all good, as long as we all get there safely & enjoy the journey...

Hi all, as we have never been down that far we are relying on others to put up a route. We have no idea what the roads are like so will trust the judgement of others. Glad to hear we should have someone (at least) to travel with Banno. Maybe more will contribute shortly Dianne

G’day all There is no way we can do the ‘long’ tour starting the 22nd to Cowra due to work commitments … So, we are looking at leaving on the Wednesday too. Because it seems that there wouldn’t be enough time to see Dubbo Zoo properly (i.e., allowing a couple of days), we have opted at this stage to not do it at all and leave it to another trip. We are considering this as our trip plan: Wednesday 25th Brisbane to Tenterfield 274km Thursday 26th EITHER Tenterfield to Tamworth 299km OR Tenterfield to Bendemeer 259km Friday 27th EITHER Tamworth to Gilgandra 277km OR Bendemeer to Tooraweena 281km Saturday 28th EITHER Gilgandra to Cowra 277km OR Tooraweena to Cowra 318km Our return trip will be via the Pacific Hwy, and will probably be: Saturday 5th Cowra to Penrith (staying with family) 251km Sunday 6th Penrith to Taree (area) 342km Monday 7th Taree (area) to Grafton (staying with family) 310km Tuesday 8th Grafton to Brisbane 322km If any or all of this suits you please let me know …. Cheers Doug Just as a thought, it was said earlier in the thread that in previous Nationals the cruise to the Nationals was more or less planned, with the trip home left for everyone to go their own way, would it be feasible to leave the Dubbo Zoo till after the Nationals for those that want to / can include it on their trip? ? That might make a shorter “to” trip so more people could go on it together …. Just a thought.

Sounds like Jean & Kev are Doin the Newell. It’s good people are putting in different routes so guess we’ll all get there eventually one way or another.
We’ve pored over maps, thought about days to leave etc etc (as we haven’t got a lot of time to spare either) & so far have come up with a few more short tour possibilities for everyone to ponder on…
1. The Catch Up Tour aka the New England H’way
Wed 25/4…home to Uralla for night. From Brisbane this is 485 km or 6 hrs+
Thurs 26/4…Uralla to Dubbo for night, & catch up with JBJ tour…430 km or 5.5 hrs+
Frid 27/4… either a day at the zoo & stay at Dubbo 2nd night, OR go to Cowra on Friday.
Sat 28/4…Dubbo to Cowra …208km or 3hrs? It’s possible to have a short extra morning at the zoo or drive straight to Cowra by lunchtime or stop at Wellington Caves on the way.
2. Life’s a Beach Tour aka Pacific H’way. I haven’t been to any of these places but suggested them because they have pet friendly caravan parks not far off Pac Hway & possibly close to beaches.
Wed 25/4…home to Corindi or Arrawarra (north of Coffs Harbour) for night. From Brisbane this is 364 km or 4.5 hrs+. Plenty of pet friendly C’parks in this area.
Thurs 26/4…Corindi to Shoal Bay (north of Newcastle) for night …433 km or 6 hrs+
Frid 27/4…Shoal Bay to Cowra…475 km or 6.5hrs+
As some people have said they want to return via Pac Hway, this might be a good possibility for return as we’re leaving on last Friday of the Nats.
More than my 2 Bobs worth most likely!

No, No, No Down the Pacific Hwy through Coffs, about 20 kays later take Waterfall Way turn off (just before Urunga). 15 more k through God's country and you arrive at Bellingen. ;D ;D More beautiful scenery for about another 15 and then you start to climb up the mountain to Dorrigo. Waterfalls, rain forests, all the bells and whistles. ;D The climb takes about 20 mins and then you are on your way to Ebor (dont blink) and about 75 mins later you are at the city of churches, Armidale. ;D Not far down the road to Uralla Hope this helps someone. Camping at the show ground in Bello if you wish and the best THAI tucker this side of Roi-et is available in town (free plug) Cheers Rod Just watching the 6.00pm News. Bellingen copped 250mm of rain today. Caravan park evacuated. Downstream at Urunga .. van park evacuated. Shots of waterfall way fair pumping the water down the mountain. 20 tonne of rocked removed from the W.F way after land slide. More bad weather predicted for most of Northen and central NSW for the next 48 hours... We cant complain about having a wet NRMA motorfest.. at least the roads and bridges in and out of sydney will keep thier heads above water.. Our thoughts are with you guys up north... we hope it doesnt turn into what Granthem /Toowoomba /Brisbane copped last year. Regards Reddo

Hi JBJ,
Jenny & I are taking Marvin up to Tregeagle from 11 April to continue the fitout of chest of drawers, cupboard doors, new windows etc to have him a little closer to finished for the Nationals.
We are staying with Jenny's sister & brother-in-law (school teachers) over the holidays & are planning to leave for home on Sunday 22 April.
It seems to me that it would be a better idea to tag along with you guys & go straight to Cowra.
Our plans are still in the early stage, but I think it would be fun.

Hi Alan,
It would be good to have you guys along.
I'll send you a pm with our contact details, as you probably will end up driving past our place when you are up here.
It looks like there could be a few of us travelling in a group, which is one of the best parts of the vintage van thing for us.

hi Brendo & stace,
As Rod said, it will be good to have you guys along.
We are starting to get a fair few travellers together now.
I know when we travelled to Mt Gambier a couple of nationals ago, we always had a great group each night.
Sort of the same as our normal get togethers we end up having up here in SE Qld, but only every night instead of once or twice every outing.
Daytimes are also great, as the leading van finds something worthy of looking at, & the others stagger along behind at their own pace. No reasons to travel in a bunch if you dont want to, but it does tend to make the stopping for breaks more enjoyable when travelling in a group.
I reckon it will be all fun.
Still you can never have too much fun.

Hi All,
We have booked all the parks to Cowra with only 1 night at Dubbo. Geoff & Jude are meeting us there on Wednesday and on Thursday we are staying with some farmers who holiday with us at Kiama every January, then on to Cowra on Friday.
We are looking forward to the trip.

Hi All,
I know lots of SE Qlders are doing their own thing, & travelling on their own or whatever. But a few have contacted me & indicated they want to travel in one group. When travelling in a (loose) group, its always handy to have one anothers mobile numbers on a list in case of emergencies. So, if you intend travelling with us, would you be kind enough to PM me with your mobile numbers, van type & maybe towcar, so I can hand out a list to the others at overnight stops.
It will not appear on the Forum, just a handout.
