G'day Mark.

That's a big trip alright, I hope the wind is always behind you and the road is nice and smooth.

Enjoy the trip and keep your eyes open.... you might even be able to find something on the way to Cowra ::)

for those of you following my progress accross the paddock, I'm currently laid up for a day in the lovely South Aussie town of Blanchetown on the Murray.

I'm here to pick up Brian's (noblesgarage) accomodation for Cowra .........the G O F A R ;D

......but the owner, Kevin, is still laid up in hospital after having major knee surgery ....hopefully he'll be home today.
I've gotta stick a couple of fresh tyres on it ........... then head to Merbein to have a look at a lil bondy.

So much for the wax & polish job on the FX .........she has a nice coat of slimy greasy diesel residue shit from the black smoke the truck pumps out on the climbs ::)
Maybe a cover would have been a good idea :-/

not to worry .......its all good :D ........today I could go for a ferry cruise on the Murray :-/ ........nah, been there done that!

or .......there's a nice lil watering hole overlooking the Murray Lock 1 .........so maybe a couple of quiet ones and a lunch to chill out following 4 days of playing the roll of an East West truckie ;D

G'day Jenno,

"They" say it's a Hutchison... I don't think anybody has worked out (yet) if there is a connection between the "Mayfair".... the "Smal-a-van" ... and the "Hutchison"...... time will tell, as it does on this inquisitive forum.....aye?

reddo says:

"Somewhere back in history i seem to remember talk about rigid mounted tow couplings on the back of trucks....... .... and the very adverse effect it has on the drawbar and caravan.

Might have been Oldfarts that touched on the subject of suspenison / spring mounting the towbar/ball to take away "jarring " effect when the stiff rear end of the truck goes over a bump??
"

.........just been to dinner with the Mexican vv'ers at Junee NSW ......had a great night and many laughs, but it is friggin freezing here :o :o :(

As for the "jarring" effect and the stiff rear end, my rear end is fine ......and the little GOFAR surprisingly hasn't fallen to bits after experiencing the most shocking worst roads ever in outback NSW (through Hay & Balrinald).

As for me ........my chassis is stuffed :(, .....................and my teeth have nearly fallen out :( ..........I'm copping a hell of a hammering up the front of the truck sitting right over the front wheels and running 70PSI in the tyres .........all the [i]jarring[/i ]is happ'n up the front :(.........gunna need one 'ell good massage on arrival in Cowra ::)

The truck runs car wheels on the rear (14" with car size light truck tyres) and with the weight of the car and fuel drums to hold down the rear, the GOFAR is travelling sweetly, unlike me ::)

And to top it off this morning, got caught up in a major police blitz road block coming into Hay ......they wanted blood :(
.....they checked everything, truck rego (WA), GOFAR rego (SA) .....truck compliance plate, my drivers licence, breath test and extensively queried the load weight, checked the GOFAR's coupling, chains, lights.........checked how the FX is secured on the tray .....the works .........I kinda got the impression they wanted me off the highway ::)

My weight is well under .......its a 2700kg truck, the FX weighs approx 1050, the fuel drums 432kg (full) and the GOFAR about 500 kgs.

They were nasty suckers .............but got nothing ...... ;D ;D ;D

....as they say, its all good!

Mark

;D ;D ;D ;D

Aaaaaaaaaaaaahhh... life on the road....... How good is that guys.
Gettin there is half the fun aye.... 8-) 8-) 8-)
Those Soggycats...... ummm... scaredeeycacs........ ummm sutcacs.. are gunna be awfully lonely up in FNQ aye guys. :P :P ;)

Up early today but didnt make it to a dawn service... got all excited and started packing the van and scrubbin up old Frank B .Vanholden.
Went to a 10.00am Anzac service at West Wallsend.... it was one of the small mining towns that the "' Wallaby March " down the hunter valley went through signing young blokes up for the war.
The service had dropped off over the passed 2 years but... we had a crowd of around 300 there today. LOTS of young kids all well behaved and listening intently to the speeches.... great to see,
Beautiful big black horse with rider in full light horse soldier atire in the saddle stood motionless during the entire half hour service.... what a wanderfull animal,.
He dumped a"huge" poop right at the end of the buglers renditition of "the last post.".... ::) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)... umm.. the horse did that... not the rider. ;) :)
I had one beer with a mate that served in Vietnam and a second beer with old Tom my neighbour.. he fought in the Korean war.

I felt humbled just being in their company and shaking their hand on the day.. we owe a lot to them . never... ever.. forget what they and their mates done for us and our great nation....

ahem... move on Reddo

Son Luke managed to limp his Toyota home .. that means i am free to roam west tomorrow... no rescue mission needed/
Will be in Dunedoo......... ::).. or perhaps Dubbo van park tomorrow night.... ::) ???
Great to see 2 years of planning the vint van nats finally coming to fruition... and.... glad that i will be part of it... thanks goes to the mods and anyone else that has been involved in pulling it all together for us.

Said it before .. say it again....
To everyone that is making the trek to Cowra...Have a safe .. trouble free trip ..dont rush.
see ya soon.
Regards
Reddo

Hi all,
The Vic's have been slowly making our way north to the warmer weather.
Getting ready
[image]

This must be a familiar sight all around Australia this week
[image]

We're all doing our bit to keep the economy going
[image]

The weather could have been a bit friendlier
[image]

We thought we were on holidays, but firefighter had us all working to get the name tags ready
[image]

The first name tag wearer is Derk
[image]

And after all that hard work time for some debriefing
[image]

At Beechworth the men found some old cars, including this 1926 Chev used to do the mail run and last used in 1959. It has been shedded since 1973
[image]

Beechworth aint Beechworth without the bakery!

And we're off to Junee...

Is it this way?

Oops! No, not this way. Let's try that way.

A quick stop to check out another bakery.

Is this the biggest pub?

This is definitely the biggest leaf!

Getting into the Junee caravan park.

Doug and Vicki
[image]

Geoff and Gay

Ian and Robyn
[image]

A ring-in from WA - Mark
[image]

Dave and Lilian
[image]

Derk
[image]

Ralph and DI
[image]

Kees and Louise
[image]

Frank and Liz
[image]

We went to the ANZAC day march in Junee.

Viewing some sights of Junee, the Monte Cristo Homestead, most haunted residence in Australia
[image]

A bit of window shopping
[image]

The best hot chocolate ever at the Junee Licorice and Chocolate Factory
[image]

A game of vertical bowling involved 'bowling' a ball of licorice through a vertical shute to try and hit the skittles standing below.

and then catching the skittles as they are bowled over.

Now off for a nice roast dinner cooked by some of the members. See you all in Cowra.

Cheers. Lil
