5:45 am in the morning, the mobi rings ............
"bloody banks " ..........being a mortgage broker, I sometimes get phone calls from Eastern States Bank call centres, whose staff forget that we're 3 hours behind .
But nup, .......this was no Bank, .....it was a delightful bright young lady by the name of Sandy from Owen in outback SA, to tell me about Grandad's Clipper Tandem that nan said she could sell to pay for backyard improvements to Sandy's house.
When Sandy told me the caravan is a tandem, I thought the ol' girl has to be a 20 plus footer, but Sandy proved me wrong, it is in fact 15 foot 10 inches.
I lept outta bed, cranked up the poot, and went straight to Don R's Down History Lane

In Sandy's words:
"Hi Mark. Well they say a picture tells a thousand words, so i thought i'd send you a lot of pictures. here is our 'old girl'. she was built for My Aunty Connie and Uncle Rex in about '58 to their chosen plan. My grandparents, Gwen and Bevan, bought her off Connie & Rex in 73 and have owned her ever since. the last 10 odd years she has just sat in our new back shed being used as extra storage for my books. before that she lived in their shed, 800mts down the road from us. grandpa got himself a 71 galant, so the old girl moved out here to make way in the shed for the new toy.
I think she's going to waste sitting in our back shed and if someone wants to buy her then thats money we can put into paving our back verandah .
Grandma is more than happy for us to sell the van and has said i can keep what we get for it, to do the back yard. she has also given me the fridge that came with the van when they got it. we havent had a chance to weigh the van yet. she measures 15 foot 10 inches".
you'll note there is the little hammock bed i was telling you about in a few photos. most of the blinds are ok, one needs repairs or a new one. grandma still has the original curtains some where she says. she's starting to look for them. the original single matresses have been loaned out, we're trying to get them back if it helps? the table and seat cushions are all original. there is a little table in the sleeping area, grandma and grandpa used that to set up a double bed, and it helped support the mattress.
Grandpa started painting one side, but never go aroung to painting the side with the door."
Always on the hunt for something different for the Beverley collection, and whilst visiting Tununda for the great South Aussie v v event last month, a friend & I drove to Owen (about 45 mins from Tanunda) to meet Sandy, and check out the clipper tandem in the flesh.
to be continued ....................................
