Hello to all vv'ers from philou. I do enjoy reading all your stories and checking out all the photos. I am looking forward to attending the tallebudgera outing so hope i get there. (only live about an hour away). Pictured is our van purchased from Murwillumbah. The owners father purchased the van in melbourne "long ago". It doesnt have a serial number anywhere. It is probably a mid 60's capricorn van badged by pedigree. ( it is almost identical to a photo i saw somewhere on this site, even the inside - which is extremely water damaged on this van). Caravan Court couldnt help much with history but suggested Tony from Roma Caravans but i have no reply yet. I have to finish my classic project and take it for a run before the louise part of philou lets me start this one. Thanks for all the advice i have gathered here. regards Phil

G'day Philou, Welcome to the V V forum. I realise you have been looking at the “Capricorn” 'van and concluded that it is the same as your's but.... I'm wondering if you would mind look at the valiant 'vans (by Viscount) and let us know if “Capricorn” ..“Pedigree” and “Valiant” all appear to be out of the same mould..... I.E. the Viscount mould. At the moment on eBay there is a "Valiant Type A" sales brochure for sale with the floorplan.... is it the same as your 'van Item # 200327941682 Cobber.

hi cobber. that ebay site had some good post cards too. the valiant sure has the same body shape. the interior is similar, the pedigree has a nite & day style fold out lounge/bed at the rear. the interior shelving and cupboards are exactly the same as the capricorn that i cant seem to find on the forum. the aluminium cladding is the chequerplate style all over. i will check on the a frame & legs from the valiant photo. thanks. phil p.s. a fellow from caravan court did say that pedigree badged other vans as well as make their own but didnt know any more than that.

G'day Philou and Cobber, Just thought I'd throw in a bit more information about Pedigree caravans, just to create the maximum confusion. ;D ;D ;D According to a post from Hughdeani on 30 March, Roma Caravans built vans for Pedigree, amongst others. If you check out the van shown in Reply #11 on the Roma thread in the Down History Lane section, there are a lot of similarities with Philou's Pedigree. Note in particular the style and placement of the 'Roma' and 'Pedigree' nameplates on both the front and the back of the vans... (Of course it may only point to the fact that the same person made and attached the nameplates, ;D ;D ;D but maybe not...) Perhaps Philou can tell us whether the layout and fittings of the Roma are similar to the Pedigree? What do you think chaps? Don Ricardo

G'day Detective Inspector Don Ricardo I think you're right, and I think Hughdeani has given us the clue that “Roma” was responsible for providing chassis and bodies for quite a few of the other brands. And Hughdeani casually throws in another name “Blue Horizon”..... we have an “Horizon” thread in DHL that doesn't look much like the plywood “Romas” we have so there's another one to look into. The Pedigree certainly does look more like a Roma than a Viscount, especially around the space between the front windows and the actual slope of those windows that seems to be a feature of the “Roma” clones. But then again, that “Valiant” by “Viscount” of Daggsey's has the same sloping front windows as the “Roma” Shut up Cobber.

G'day Cobber & Don. I notice the Pedigree posted by Gordon is exactly the same as the Capricorn posted as reply 3 from Reddo under "vintage van wanted" on feb 2 (below is my attempt to post a shortcut). vintagecaravans.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=forsale2&thread=3732&page=1My pedigree van's interior is exactly the same as that posted by Reddo "except that" the cupboard doors are a shiny woodgrain laminex. the open style top shelving & all handles are the same. My van has aluminium side walls with no spats. (the others appear to have bondwood side walls). Hope its still vintage-i better check further. I think the fixed rear window is a different size to the viscounts. If it is of any use, the old vic. rego. serial no. was 1126665 but may not be 'original owner'. regards. phil.

Hi Philou and Cobber, I PM'ed Hughdeani about whether Roma caravans were re-badged as Capricorns, and I gather from his reply today that they were. That would explain why Philou's Pedigree looks like and has the same layout as both a Capricorn and a Roma!! Re Horizon and Blue Horizon - I have an impression that they are entirely different brands, however my impression is based on nothing other than a feeling I have, so I may be incorrect! I tried googling 'Blue Horizon' but it seems that every second resort in Australia is called 'Blue Horizon' or includes a reference to the blue horizon in their web blurb. How inconvenient! Hi Don Ricardo. I have looked at the Roma photos and there is no doubt about it. The outside is identical as are cupboard doors & handles and the small shelf under the front window. The only difference in layout is cupboards back & front in the Roma but open shelving to the capricorn & pedigree. And thanks for all the advice. Cheers - Phil.
