Hi everyone, I have been a member for a little while now and have decided to share some pics of my van and a couple of mates vans as well. We use our vans regularly and all are pretty much original and unrestored. As you can see they are towed by cars that suit also. This is my Korong van and the XP that tows it. A Valiant van and Holden!!! A Roma and Studebaker Bullet. One of our weekend trips to Avoca for a Hot Rod weekend. We love our vans and use them whenever we can but the great part is the positive comments from people about both old cars and old vans being out and about being used. These 3 vans show that vintage caravanning can also be cheap. The most expensive van was $500!!! I love this site and reckon that an album of just members vans and cars with just short captions would be popular. Mal.

Hi there Mal
It was exciting to see another Korong out there - we have one that we are doing up at the moment. Can I ask where you got it from? Ours came from Bendigo.
Cheers
Dan

G'day Mal, Thanks for those great photos. Can you, or Dan, tell us a bit more about the Korong 'van it is not one we have listed in the “Down History Lane” forum. I also like your suggestion about us having a Vintage Caravan “Photo album”... I have been thinking along those lines for some time... just photo and a caption, nothing else.... but that's about as far as I have got Cobber.

Hi there Mal, Dan and Cobber, Lovely XP you've got there Mal. I'm not sure whether the following info helps: Hi ,I have a 14 ft all glass van which has the name KORONG 14" sign written front & back ,(MY name ;D) now I always thought it was a Skyline ,due to the adds in the 1967 Keith Winser Vans & Accessories book that I have ,they also show the same van under the Franklin name,no mention of Kennedy?? I think Korong was a van seller in Bendigo?? Anymore info would be appreciated. Thank you. KK The Korong name seems to have been applied to a mixture of van types, but with a common theme of Bendigo. Mal's van looks a bit like a Franklin to me, but I may be wrong. Maybe Firefighter can add something - he has links to Bendigo I think... Years ago the father of one of my uni friends was the principal of the Korong Vale Primary School, not all that far from Bendigo, so I'm assuming that Korong is a regional/geographic name in the area? Dan - I've just found a thread reporting on the purchase of your van in June 2007. How is the restoration going? Is your van like Mal's? Any pics? Don Ricardo

Thanks for the positive coments. My ‘Korong’ came from Bendigo (where I live) and had spent the last 20 plus years in storage when my mate (Steve, the one with the ‘Valiant’) was shown it by an old friend of his. Storage was becoming a problem and the van was going to be dumped when Steve found it and offered to save it from oblivion. When Steve asked if I was interested in it I snapped it up. There is NO rot and when I rewired it I found all the internal framing to be like new!!! I thought I read in this forum just after I got the van that Korong was a van dealer in Bendigo that rebadged other vans with their own name. My van came from an old Bendigo family so it is likely it came from a local dealer. As an aside the caravan park manager at Avoca Caravan Park took an interest in our old vans because he used to build caravans at Franklin Vans in the late 60’s and thought he recognized aspects of the interior of my van as ‘Franklin’. When he consulted pictures of an old Franklin it was almost identical to mine so I believe my Korong is most likely a Franklin that was rebadged by Korong Vans in Bendigo. The name on the back says Korong 13’ She only needs a bit of new paint and it will look a million dollars. Mal.

Hi Don Thanks for your reply. Yes we did get the van last June and have been making slow progress up to now. We live in the Blue Mountains and have to do all of the work out in the open which is difficult. But we are making a push towards a christmas completion... Here is a pic with the rotten section of the wall out ready to replace - I will post a progress pic of new wall once the rain stops. We have drawn up a list of things to do before we get the van registered and it is quite long but we should get through everything - weather and $$$ dependent... So stay tuned Dan
