Hi Fibrelass, Can you please post a pic of the front of the van so I can see the name on the front. What is the number on the chassis, and look on the inside of your cupboards and see if there is a matching number. Mine is 952 and Tuckys van is 926, would be interesting to compare. Gemma

Hi, Now I'm a bit baffled..the number on the drawbar is 6146.. I'm not near the van at the moment to check the cupboards, but I do know there are pencil marks on them.. I'll get back in a week or so.. Cheers.

Fibrelass, do you know anything about where this van was built? There are a number of things about it, inluding the chassis, jockey wheel mount, light fittings, sink, kitchen splashback and small shelf above that are similar to my '63 franklin. Gristy

That Gristy is because Franklin made those fibreglass vans then decided they didn't want to be in them any more......and then Mr. Kennedy took over the moulds, production etal and then so began Kennedy Caravans.

I'm still intrigued Humpty2, Fibrelass has a Skyline "Kennedy", ours is a finned one with only a Wayfarer badge, does that make ours a "Franklin" maybe?? Hope you can help.

Thanks Humpty, That I am aware of (although only very recently). I am curios of the timeframes when Franklin did this and where (was it at their Ballarat factory). I am possible adding 2+2 to get 5 here, but would it be fair that the chassis number on this van - 6146, could represent 1961, van build number 46?? The chassis number on mine is in the same spot, same style of numbers, but is 637. I assumed that might be 7th month 1963, but always thought that surely they would build more than one van per month. But what if it actually meant 7th van built in 1963. Likewise this "Kennedy" ciould be 46th van built in 1961? thoughts anyone? Cheers, gristy

Hi Gristy, Our Franklin/Kennedy has the number 952 and we thought possibly 1959 build number 52. The Tucks van is number 926.....Gemma

Can't help you with the dating, but I believe Skyline was a sales /distribution outlet........there are Sunliners with the Skyline brand on them too.

Just had a quick look in the cupboards...the number is just 614. I think this van is my favourite..still quite light even with the two windows covered over.. Cheers..

Very excited to find another fibro on this forum - which I have been quietly following on my laptop between sips of beer and my wife saying "turn that bloody thing off" for some months. We were recently given a Sunliner (1963) in remarkably good condition methinks. Although your Skyliner looks even better. Skyliners and Sunliners seem awfully similar. Is there a connection perhaps? Please keep us all posted with any changes. What are the plans for the flooring? We have ordered some checkerboard lino for our van which we pick up next week. Can anyone tell me how best to restore the chassis? I'm thinking sandblast the rust then fish oil? then silver frost paint. Dunno... I'm pretty crap with this sort of thing. Any suggestions...? Keen to see any Sunliner pics. Found the old brochure via this website which was a thrill indeed. Dorian (New member)

G,day Atog,
Thanks for the reply mate. You're a champion. Yeah, the price was right.javascript:add(%22%20;D%22) The old fella who owned the van is in his mid nineties and is in now in a home - sans wheels. His son, richer than you and me, was getting rid of 'junk' in the backyard and asked if I wanted it. (You know the way rich people can never be bothered to put an ad in the trading post like normal people.)
I write funny travel features (SMH, Age, columnist with Oz Traveller mag) and I took it with the view of taking my kids away in it and writing a features about how families spent their holidays in the 1950s.
I will take some snaps over the weekend and post. I need some advice about restoring it - though it's in remarkable condition methinks.
cheers, Dorian

Cheers atog/humpty, I'm not far from you (humpty) methinks. Here in God's Waiting Room (aka NSW Central Coast). Think I may have seen your fabulous sunliner on this forum. The only drama with mine seems to be rust in the chassis. It towed fine from Sydney. A mate is going to sandblast below but then I'm unsure as where to from there. fish oil? silver frost paint. I will try and post some pics over the weekend. It's almost in pristine condition but for the steel underneath which is a little rusty. The old fella had it garaged all his life can you believe? In very good nic from what I can tell re this website. Have ordered checkerboard lino for floor. Some curtains. That's about it. Some very minor work on the upholstery is needed - a button or two. Looking forward to everybody's feedback once I've worked out how to post pics. cheerio, Dorian
