Hi Trodler,it does have a different style peak at the front. Hi Jbj, it has independant suspension with a torsion bar.The owner gave me spare torsion bar but it has one broken leaf out of 5 and has a nut to wind up on the drivers side wheel at the axle to adjust (all new to me Ive never owned this style of setup so any advise is good) Cheers Dave.... will post more pictures of the goodies that came with it as i unwrap and photograph them. p.s The owner showed me some slides with the original window configuration so i shall remove the bunks and put some windows back in the front .He told me they were fixed and installed with rubbers the full width of the inside openings. Does anyone know where to get this rubber mould.Any photos of a gypsy would be greatly appreciated

Looks like a good one Dave, well done. Regarding the front window, in 1955 "Gypsy" were advertising "all-metal picture windows are here", and as the rest of your windows are metal ?? The tow coupling looks as though it belongs in the "old tow couplings " thread, does it have a brand name on it ? Cobber.

Hi Cobber, The coupling has no name on it at all. As for the windows they are definately a fixed glass window.I spoke to the owner extensively about them so i can get them back in there. They were removed so the kids on the bunks didnt put an elbow through the glass. The van vas orginally pink on the bottom but the owner painted the bottom green to match his Chrysler Royale.Cheers Dave

Hi there C/D looks like your name can now be added to "The Royal Bondwood Preservation Society" register. Your R.B.S sports jacket and lapel pin will be forwarded to you shortly by our secretary double8-) . Of course we will require confirmation by an official bill of sale showing that you have disposed of all other forms of caravan materials from your address . While we at the royal bondwood preservation society are a broadminded lot , it is written in to our constitution and charter that we are to ensure that there can be no "cross breeding" between lower forms of vans such as aluminium or fibreglass with our beloved bondwoods. We trust that the "beer can" you where residing in at Coledale has been sent to the non ferrous scrap metal dealer and the area it lived in at your place has been sprayed and fumigated by a licensed and competent pest controller . We would hate to think that your pedigree gypsy ( again ) could become infected with Black spot , electrolysis , loose rivets rust or osmosis >:(which is so common amongst those vans that use salmon tins/beer cans and or composite gunk for their outside coatings.. Once again congratulations on a great find and we look forward to your attendance at the next "Royal Society for Bondwood Preservation ' meeting. Jacket and pin must be worn to show allegance. It is hoped to have a range of "RSFPOBCV " tee shirts and hats and other regallia available this year at Coledale. Visit site 11 to inspect the full range... bring beer ;D Next meeting: Dawsons Timberyard and saw mill. Forestry road Timberville.. Where else would you have meetings other than at the birth place of our beloved bondwood vans. Yours in "woodyness" remember the motto.. "If it aint wood.. it aint good" Reddo Grand Poo Bah "The Royal Society for Preservation of Bondwood Caravans" Australian Chapter P.S ... keep us posted with the treasures that ya unearth from within the van

Hi Chippydave,
I have a thermometer of the same style and colour as yours hanging in my old bedroom at Mum's place. I will retrieve it on my next visit to hang in Marvin. Maybe we can compare temperatures at Coledale.

Could we have the old bunks Dave?
With the loose buttons found in our van, we took the cushions and buttons to an upholsterer and he re-fitted them by attaching a long nylon loop to one, pulling it through somehow and looping it over the other one. It looked like one of those tasks that takes a tradesman 30 seconds and a frustrated amateur hours!
cheers

Hi Belinda,I was keeping the bunks so i can slot them straight back in so i have extra storage for my inaugural swap meet. They would be quite easy to make as they are just two poles that slot in and have a piece of hessian that the pole slides through. If you are going to munmora i will gladly look at your van and give you some ideas and suggestions on adapting a set to suit your van. Cheers Dave.

Hi Dave. Have been looking through som old magazines for you and I have found roughly when your Gypsy was made. The first Ad is from 1958 with the classic round shape. The second Ad is from 1959 and the shape has changed to the peak roof, with a bit of interesting iron work on the front as well. Cheers. Trodler.

Hi Guys, being such a beautiful sunny day on the first day of winter here in Sydney I thought i would finally lift up those cushions, drag out and check out my annex that came with the gypsy. grey with maroon and white stripes I i was quite happy with what i got and matched the poles with the previous owners numbering system written on the poles and it also came with a few styles of pegs. During the week I paint stripped the table and splashback to reveal a nice aqua crazed laminex. Cheers Dave

Now all ya gotta do is throw out that big shiney "catfood tin" you had at Munmorah and all will be sssssswwwweeeeetttttttt Fellow bondy supporter. Reddo
