Hi Retro When you've found a beauty such as this, who'se going to argue about a couple of years? I can understand your curiosity. But this is a beautiful example of a van of this era, even the tabletop is still shiney!!! I notice there's no exterior light!! Rather surprising for its age. Are you going to repaint her or just clean her up?? Cheers (jealous as buggery!!!!!) Ray

Nice find Retro .........
The reason we thought "Ditzy" is a 1963 model is because of the year recorded on the rego papers ........this can sometimes be inaccurate though, for various reasons......

G'Day Retro What a beautiful van. This is the way to find 'em. barn fresh and unabused. Thank god at least someone had the prescence of mind to park it somewhere high and dry. Its finds like this that gives hope to the newcomers to this site who are in the market for a van but a frustrated by greedy Ebayers or private sellers. It would be a shame to do anything to that van other than use it as is. Love the colours and side stripes. interior colours and layout are almost identical to our van. Unusual not to have a "window" in the access door. appears to have a later model number plate light . different to the campbells indicators. Also interesting to note that they where fitting aluminium windows as far back as 1961. I have a "fetish" for portholes and i am gunna have to fit at least 1 somewhere on Just croozn. i think " Will & Lyn from the West" had tracked down someone who is reproducing 'em. Also love the convair sign on the back..... Coooool. Was the original owner a coal miner or worked in heavy industry??? reason i ask is that blokes use to knock off 32 Volt globes from low voltage lead lights and bring 'em home expecting them to work on 240 volts. Born in 1914 My old man was a bit of a bushy, i as an apprentice electrician in the 70's went to great lengths to try and explain to dad that he couldn't use them in the kitchen light bloody scarey to think about livening up your car with 240volts when plugging in at a van park. The car is insulated from the ground by rubber tyres and so is the van . So if anyone touches the car, they would become a "human fuse." Hopefully they unhitched the van before plugging in the power. But even then the 240V would be exposed at the wiring plug that pushes into the trailer plug on the car. Can i be a cheeky Bast@#d and ask how much you paid??? Will understand if you dont want to disclose how much. just trying to give those out there searching a bit of an idea on what is available and roughly whats a fair price to pay. 'Spose it all comes back to what Mark said a long while back.... "a van is only worth what someone is willing to pay". For all we know you may have bought it from a pensioner who paid 4 pounds 4 shillings and fourpence for it in 1961 and that is what he asked for it. ? No such luck you say.!!!! Anyway mate once again ... what a great find. Luv It. Also thanks for posting the plans for the generator. Reddo - Jealous as anyone can get.... even more jealous than Ray is ;D

The rear red light is not the original. The light is from one of my Kombi's interior lights with cellophane over the clear lens. I have the original but as I had to do a quick rewire so I could tow it home this one did the job. As for all those people out there how want to know how much I paid for this van, this one was cheap.
I paid $500 for it which is great value but as I have stated it needs a little work to be spent on it. As for a fair price once restored and the amount of vans I have seen I would put a true value at about $2500 .
This is still cheap as I'm in the process of helping a mate build a small teardrop and the materials for that will cost about $600 and he already has the chassis.
As for everything in this world it is only worth something if you find a buyer how will part with his/her cash

$500 !!! .....Retro .... you are a bloody burglar. That was one hell of a deal.
Your mate might end up with a nice new van but you can't beat finding an original van in good condition. Especially when you get it at "The right price'

There is only one thing better than buying a vintage caravan . That buying one with a annex. Found this in the shed when I was picking the van up. It is like new and was put up in a matter of minutes.

gday retro can you post as many pics as possible (of the interior in particular) i"ve just bought ditzys van and intend to remodel it. It has been modified completely inside, and the outside has a metal skin front and back, with the two outer front windows covered(or removed ) and the rear window covered completely I intend fitting gas for a stove (there isnt one at all) and a fridge and making a BIG bed at the rear I love the rounded corners on the wardrobe and the seats (those that still exist at least) will try and see how they are made and see if i can copy them. will post some pics soon
