Hi people..I bought this little stunner yesterday, I know the brand, but nothing else. Does anyone have any insight? I was stunned to find the internal doors alloy! I love it and want to give it a sympathetic resto so any info at all would be great.

Hi derektilsner! What a lovely little van - I'm no expert on these things (those people will be along later! ) but is it a Carapark or a Franklin "toaster" type van? I'm very jealous! Check out both of those brands in the Down History Lane section of the forum, and that might be a place to start identifying your purchase, and seeing some other examples that give guidance. We'd love to see some internal pictures too which often help pick years and models apart. And depending on where you are - there are lots of events and fun places to take your van (when ready) to share the madness with like minded souls. Congratulations! Seeshell

Hi derektilsner, Welcome to the forum, congratulations on the purchase of your little stunner ;D ;D. Is it a carapark ?, and does the writing on the front say "Little Foot"?, If possible please post some interior and more exterior photos, the alloy cupboards sound interesting, and it might help people give you some info. There might be clues on the outside of the van, maybe a manufacturers plate or a model name or length. We haven't seen a porthole on the front before, but we're sure there's lots we havent seen, that another member may have. Good luck with your new van, hope you get your answers to "what?". cheers retro64

I have to agree it could be Lil Toot, or even (though it makes little sense to me) Lil Joot? Do you have any history on the van - contact with the original owners - that might shed light on the name?
Very nice Carapark!

What a little stunner!Looks like little toot to me! Is it a van for vertically challenged people?Looks a bit short or is it the angle of the photos? I would call this one a keeper for sure.Good luck with her! hughdeani

Hi derektilsner, After enlarging the photo, and reaching back to long long ago when we did Cursive in school it looks like "Lil Toot". Maybe it was owned by a train driver who loved his job so much he took his namesake on holidays ;D The interior layout looks unlike any other we've seen, especially the stove alcove. Is that a cover for the porthole on the table to use when cooking? Aluminium cupboards of high quality, perhaps a custom made van? As Carapark van- fans we cant wait to see more of it. The cupboards being so interesting, are you planning to strip and polish them, or paint? Either way we think your van is really really toot um... cute... um that should read.... a real treasure!!!! We're positively green with envy and wish you all the best with it. cheers retro64

It is very short, I must do some measuring. The name is definately TOOT, I have some loose local history or it back to the 50's but I want to nail it right down

The little round thing is just a spatter screen (newish) and not part of anything, the table folds up over the alcove when not in use. I did read....somewhere..... that carapark did at some stage have alloy internal doors, who would have any idea why though? The paint on them looks to me like very early metalflake, knowing a bit about this stuff I reckon it to be mid to late 50's, original, and bloody gorgeous, it really was an accidental purchase. I have seen it well parked and ventilated..but un used for years, I dropped in for a look a few weeks ago...not looking to buy at all...and lo and behold a few days ago it was offered to me. Obviously I could not refuse. Personally I restore cars and have a 60's clinker speedboat to restore...........but when this came up

G'day Derektilsner,
What an intriguing little van. It raises so many questions!
You've shown us three sides of the van, each of which only has a porthole window. What is on the offside (driver's side) of the van? Is there another porthole, or is it just a wall without windows? I tried to work it out by looking at the shadows but couldn't reach a conclusion.
It certainly is tiny as well. I will be interested how long it is (ie the length of the cabin). It looks as if it may be only 8 or 9 feet?
I don't think I've seen a Carapark with only porthole windows before. I wonder if it was built as a commercial as opposed to a recreational van? Possibly as portable accommodation for an itinerant worker, or maybe as a site office - something like that.
Whatever it's history, it is certainly worth preserving!
Don Ricardo
