Evening all, Dona Ricardo and I spent most of last weekend at the Whittlesea Show, helping to staff the "Lost Children's Tent". It's less work than it used to be because lots of kids - even quite small tots - know their parents' mobile numbers and we can ring the parents up. The bigger problem is the grandmothers who lose their hard of hearing husbands who can't hear the mobile even when it does ring! True story! ;D ;D ;D Anyway, one of the sights at the Show was a caravan which had been converted to a Fairy Floss stall. The front, rear and roof are clad in aluminium, while the side walls are pretty solid bondwood: At first I thought it might be a Roadhaven, but I think the slope of the back wall is too pronounced. The only nameplate on the van is a Norm Reeman plate, but that doesn't help us. Norm Reeman was a caravan trader in Surrey Hills (Vic) who put his nameplate on every caravan he sold. The owner bought the van in a pretty sad state for a few hundred dollars a few years ago and thought it was built in 1985 because that's what the rego sticker says. He was pretty surprised when I told him that the van was likely to be more than 20 years older than that. So what do you think? A Franklin maybe? Don Ricardo

Arr, gees, DonR... I KNOW you will be able to tell me the chassis number on this van, because I have TRAINED you to make note of these sorts of things!! It's a Franklin "Premier", similar in construction to earlee's Franklin, which was supposedly bought new in 1964 (...but not by earlee, or course ). Now DonR...if you'll just write the chassis number here: xxxx cheers, Al.

G'day Franklin1 and Hughdeani, Gee you boys are quick when it comes to Franklins. I'm expecting that soon you will be able to tell me what the weather was like in Ballarat when the van emerged from the Franklin factory, based on the openness of the grain of the bondwood or the arrangement of the molecules in the aluminium cladding. ;D ;D ;D Anyway, thanks for the quick identification of the Fairy Floss van. The owner will be interested to hear a bit more about it I'm sure. Thanks for the info about Norm Reeman too, Hughdeani. Yes, Al you have trained me well. Now, the chassis number is...ummm... I'll get it when I go to the show next year... Don R says to self: "Will I never learn?"Don Ricardo
