Hello Don, I am wondering if you can help me. I am new to this website and not really sure how I got to here !! My Uncle has a Viscount caravan which has been in his shed for about 25 years. On the tow bar bit it has V738 we are hoping this will tell us which year it was made. It is in excellent condition, just covered in dust. We are wanting to sell it but I am not sure what to do. I live in Langwarrin, but the caravan is in Warracknabeal. It has gold coloured Viscount badges all intact and the most beautiful tail lights- little orange one at top with bigger red one underneath. The stove has never been used and all the inside of the caravan is in near perfect condition, just dusty. Has a gorgeous little pump tap, and the windows on the side a slight slanted. But I have lots of photos and I need someone with knowledge to talk to. Would I be able to contact you and send photos or can you advise me of anyone in particular we should contact. Look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience. Kind regards - Jody Slater

Hi Jody,
Welcome to the forum and thanks for telling us about your uncle's Viscount. As you can see I've moved your post to it's own thread in the General section.
Viscount's numbering system has been a bit hard to work out, however forum member Franklin1 may be able to tell you something from the serial number you've provided.
Beyond that we have found that the shape of the van, the livery (especially the side flashes) and the badges are the most helpful in dating Viscounts, so if you'd like to email me the photos of the van I'll post them on the forum and we'll see what the Viscount experts can tell us. You van email me by clicking on the middle icon underneath the Don badge to the left of this panel. Let me know if you have any problems with that.
If yiu haven't already done it you may also like to have a look at the Viscount threads in the Down History Lane section - look for the index thread near the top of the section directory.
Hopefully we'll be able to help you, and we'll enjoy looking at the pics of you van along the way.
Don Ricardo

Yes, it will be interesting to see some photos of this van. We've known of two other Viscounts with a chassis number starting with "V", and both of them can be seen in this threadBluetanjo's van (Whatever happened to Jo?? ) has the chassis number of V314, and appears to be from around the 1963 mark. The other van down the bottom of that same thread has the chassis number of V51-3, which is a bit unusual having a hyphen, so I'm not sure what that means. Note also the coincidence that one of the photos of Jo's Viscount shows a sticker with Barry Panter Pty Ltd, caravan traders, Warracknabeal. And here we are with another Viscount that happens to be located in Warracknabeal, and happens to have a V-series chassis number. A bit of an initial guesstimate for Jody's chassis number of V738 might be 1964. Another 400 numbers after Bluetanjo's van is probably a year's production in those days. cheers, Al.
