We took ownership of a gorgeous 1959 Ramsay 14ft 'Holiday Maker' this week..... He is in great original condition on the inside. Externally we have a few things to work on- paint, brakes, electrics, gas etc... The previous owner actually met the son (Keith) of the builder (Donald McLaren Ramsay) whilst on a camping trip in 2004. He has written down Keith's phone number which I have tried to ring several times but there has been no answer. He recorded some information which I thought would be good to add to this thread. Donald Ramsay built his 'Holiday Makers' between 1948-1962 at 26 Elizabeth Street, Rosewater, South Australia. Donald originally worked as a body builder for the Holden car company and then worked on trams at Hackney until he started building caravans in 1962. Keith said his Dad built 'made to order' vans between 9ft and 18ft. The original prices were 600-650 pounds. They made about 200 vans in total and stopped when aluminum mass produced vans became popular. (they did make a few aluminum vans) Keith worked with his Dad until 1962 and then pursued his musical interests.....he was a member of the bands...The Hightones; The Revellers; Take 3 and Modbury Singers until he retired. Some of the wonderful features which have 'stood the test of time' in this van include: Amazing upholstery made by 'Elite Bedding' from Port Road, Woodville.. Gas fridge... Gas cooktop and laminate.... Lino... Windout windows... As the previous owner stated....'It is like the van has been in a time warp'...... Megan

Billie is 18ft, dual axle and includes a bathroom! She needs quite a lot of TLC but has very good "bones". Also with the van, original notes on requirements and the working plans which clearly went through several iterations before the final design. Billie also has a removable table with two legs for using in the van and 2 extra legs to use outside the van as a normal table along with folding upholstered chairs. The Ramsay is on the left below: Curved shower door: Shower: More photos and the restoration of the van can be found by following the links in Willow5075's post immediately above this one.Don Ricardo

12 ft Ramsay caravan belonging to Smiles sighted at the 2016 Vintage Caravan Nationals at South West Rocks:This van appears to be a shorter version of Megann's Ramsay caravan shown higher up the this thread. Note the fixed window to the left of the door on both vans. Don Ricardo
