Swan Caravans (Shenton Park and Subiaco, WA)

Every now and then, something exciting happens in the VV forum world...

Yesterday, Noblesgarage sent me some photos of a Swan caravan that he and some vintage vanner colleagues have uncovered in Western Australia:











The door on the van is a stable door, but note the flywire arrangement for the door, which is a separate 'half door' that is hinged separately to the two parts of the door itself. Very ingenious!

As far as I am aware, this is the first Swan caravan we have actually seen, apart from some pics Cobber posted higher up this thread in 2008. Those photos intrigued us because the van in question did not have a front window. The van discovered by Noblesgarage and colleagues does have a front window, but the livery on the two vans is the same.

One of the fascinating things about the Swan vans, is that although they were selling this style of van at least up to the early 50's (see Cobber's post), the design of the van with the duck tail harks back to caravans from the 1930's.

This van is going to be added to a fabulous collection of vintage vans that Noblesgarage, Aza and a couple of other WA vintage vanners are putting together.  It will surely be one of the treasures of the collection?
