GREGORY CARAVANManufacturer and location unknown 1955 Gregory caravan publicity:(Source: K Winser, Australian Caravans and Touring, Book 7, 1955, p 110) The keeled roof gives this caravan a very unusual look for an Australian caravan. It is also notable that the interior was finished with polished veneer, again relatively unusual in a mid-50's Australian van. My guess is that the Gregory was based on a UK caravan design of the post-war/early 50's era. An example of a van with a very similar design is this British van which is along the lines of a Thomson Avon built in Scotland from the late 40's to the late 50's (not sure about the camo livery though - maybe it belongs to some grouse hunters? ;D ;D ;D): (Source: www.thomson-caravans.co.uk/photoalbums/outnabout/outnabout042.htm ) As I understand it, the keeled roof design was intended to prevent snow building up on the roof. British caravanners are a hardy lot! Don Ricardo
